Masonry bits are not interchangeable with standard twist drill bits. Carbide tips are required to cut through concrete, brick, and block without burning out. Relton bits are ground from solid carbide and built for production use — not the light-duty version you'll replace after 20 holes.
The most common source of confusion is shank type. SDS-Plus bits fit rotary hammers with an SDS-Plus chuck and use a hammering action to break up material as they rotate. Round shank bits fit standard keyed or keyless chucks. Using the wrong shank in the wrong tool damages the bit, the chuck, or both. If you're setting anchors in a slab, an SDS-Plus rotary hammer with a Relton REL207 bit is the standard production setup.
If you're drilling into a slab and hit unexpected rebar, Relton's Rebar Eater series cuts through the embedded steel without stopping the job. Standard carbide bits cannot cut rebar — attempting it will shatter the tip.
