Left Hand Thread Hex Nuts
A left-hand thread hex nut tightens counterclockwise instead of clockwise. Reverse threads are used where a right-hand nut would back off — on rotating shafts that would unscrew a standard nut, on one side of a turnbuckle, and on equipment that requires opposed threads. Eugene Fastener & Supply stocks left-hand thread hex nuts in Grade 2, Grade 5, and metric.
Left-hand nuts only fit left-hand bolts and rod — they are not interchangeable with standard right-hand hardware. By the piece or in bulk, same-day shipping before 2pm Pacific.

FAQ
What is a left-hand thread nut?
A left-hand thread nut tightens counterclockwise. It is used on rotating shafts, turnbuckles, and equipment where a standard right-hand nut would vibrate or rotate loose. It only fits left-hand-threaded bolts and rod.
When do you use left-hand threads?
Where rotation or motion would unscrew a normal nut — one end of a turnbuckle, a shaft turning clockwise under load, gas fittings, and certain machinery. They keep the joint tight in the direction of motion.
How do you tell a left-hand thread?
The thread spirals up to the left; turning the nut counterclockwise tightens it. Some left-hand fasteners are marked with notches. If in doubt, test the turn direction or ask us.
What grades and sizes are available?
Grade 2, Grade 5, and metric left-hand hex nuts in common diameters. Contact us for a specific size or higher grade.
