Strut Cushion Clamps
A cushion clamp is a strut pipe clamp with a two-piece plastic insert that grips the pipe and isolates it from the metal clamp and the strut. The cushion damps vibration, prevents metal-to-metal rattle and galvanic corrosion, and lets the pipe expand and contract quietly. Eugene Fastener & Supply stocks cushion clamps for both nominal pipe and exact outside-diameter tube, from 1/4" through 6", with electro-galvanized clamp halves and standard cushion inserts.
These clamps fit Unistrut and other standard 1-5/8" strut systems. For bare metal pipe clamps without the cushion, see our pipe & conduit clamps. Buy by the piece or the carton, with same-day shipping on orders placed before 2pm Pacific.

What Is a Cushion Clamp?
A cushion clamp is a two-piece strut clamp with a molded plastic insert (the cushion) that sits between the metal clamp and the pipe. The cushion does three jobs: it damps vibration so pumped or pressurized lines run quietly, it separates dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic corrosion, and it lets the pipe slide as it expands and contracts with temperature. It is the standard choice for refrigeration, hydraulic, pneumatic, and any line where noise or movement matters.
Cushion Clamp vs Standard Pipe Clamp
| Use a Cushion Clamp When | Use a Standard Pipe Clamp When |
|---|---|
| The line vibrates (pumps, compressors, hydraulics) | The line is static and quiet |
| Dissimilar metals must be isolated (copper on steel) | Same-metal contact is acceptable |
| Thermal expansion needs room to move quietly | No significant movement |
| Noise transmission to the structure is a concern | Noise is not a factor |
Sizing: Nominal Pipe vs OD Tube
Cushion clamps come in two sizing systems. Match the one your line uses.
| Type | Sized By | Example SKU |
|---|---|---|
| Pipe cushion clamp | Nominal pipe size | STR4413 (1/2"), STR4415 (1") |
| OD tube cushion clamp | Exact tube outside diameter | STR4434 (1/2" OD), STR4441 (1-1/4" OD) |
When in doubt, measure the actual outside diameter of the pipe or tube and order the OD version. Full range runs 1/4" to 6".
Brand Cross-Reference
Our cushion clamps cross-reference to the major strut brands (full chart on our strut cross-reference page):

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cushion clamp used for?
A cushion clamp supports pipe or tube on strut while isolating it with a plastic insert. The cushion damps vibration, prevents metal-to-metal rattle and galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals, and allows the line to expand and contract quietly. It is used on refrigeration, hydraulic, pneumatic, and any line where noise or movement is a concern.
What is the difference between a cushion clamp and a regular pipe clamp?
A regular pipe clamp grips the pipe metal-to-metal. A cushion clamp adds a molded plastic insert between the clamp and the pipe. Use the cushion clamp when the line vibrates, when you are clamping copper or other dissimilar metals, or when thermal movement and noise matter. Use a regular clamp for static, same-metal runs.
How do I size a cushion clamp?
Match the clamp to how your line is measured. For nominal pipe, use the pipe cushion clamp by pipe size. For tubing specified by outside diameter, use the OD tube cushion clamp by measured OD. If you are unsure, measure the outside diameter and order the OD version.
Do cushion clamps prevent galvanic corrosion?
Yes. Because the plastic cushion separates the pipe from the metal clamp, it stops the direct contact between dissimilar metals that drives galvanic corrosion, for example copper tube against a steel clamp. This is a common reason to choose cushion clamps for copper and stainless lines.
Do these cushion clamps fit Unistrut?
Yes. Our cushion clamps mount to the common 1-5/8 inch strut channel and cross-reference to standard strut brands. Note that some cushion clamp sizes do not have a direct Unistrut catalog equivalent; the cross-reference table shows the brands that do.
