Strut Channel Nuts

A strut channel nut is the threaded anchor that turns a length of strut into a mounting point. It drops into the open slot of the channel, and the spring (where fitted) holds it in position while you start your bolt, so you can fasten with one hand. Eugene Fastener & Supply stocks the full channel nut line for standard 1-5/8" strut and the deeper and shallower profiles: regular spring, short spring, long spring, top spring, and no-spring styles, plus EZ cone nuts, stud nuts, mini nuts, and metric. Finishes include electro-galvanized zinc for interior work and 316 stainless for wet, coastal, and corrosive environments.

These nuts fit Unistrut and other standard strut channel systems, so if you have a competitor part number we almost certainly carry the equivalent. Buy by the piece, the box, or the carton, with same-day shipping on orders placed before 2pm Pacific.

What Is a Strut Channel Nut?

A strut channel nut (also called a spring nut, strut nut, or channel nut) is a square or rectangular nut sized to drop into the open slot of strut channel and lock a quarter-turn against the inturned lips. Most include a coil spring that pushes the nut against the channel lips so it stays put at the height you set while you thread in a bolt. The spring also identifies which channel depth the nut is built for, which is the single most important thing to get right.

Spring Style by Channel Depth — Pick the Right One

The spring length matches the nut to the depth of the channel it sits in. Using the wrong spring style is the most common channel nut ordering mistake.

Finishes & Materials

  • Electro-galvanized zinc (standard): interior and dry applications. The default.
  • 316 stainless steel: wet, washdown, coastal, and chemical environments. Add the stainless variant of any size — for example 3/8-16 no-spring stainless STR4168S2.
  • Hot-dip galvanized: exterior, higher corrosion resistance than zinc. Available on request.
  • Metric (M6–M12): stocked in regular, long, and no-spring styles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a spring nut and a no-spring channel nut?

The spring is a holding aid, not a structural part. A spring nut has a coil spring that pushes the nut against the channel lips so it stays at the height you set while you start the bolt, which lets you work one-handed and overhead. A no-spring nut is the same threaded nut without that spring; it costs less but you have to hold it in place by hand while you thread the bolt. Both develop the same holding strength once tightened.

What is a 4109 strut nut?

The 4109 is a 1/2-13 long-spring channel nut, 1/2" thick, in electro-galvanized zinc. The long spring means it is built for deep 3-1/4" strut channel. It cross-references to Unistrut P5510, B-Line N725, and PowerStrut PS LS 1/2". If you have standard 1-5/8" channel instead, you want the regular-spring 1/2-13 (STR4124) rather than the long-spring 4109.

How do I know which spring style I need?

Match the spring to the channel depth. Standard 1-5/8" strut takes a regular spring; deep 3-1/4" channel takes a long spring; shallow 13/16" channel takes a short spring. If you are unsure or mix channel depths on a job, a no-spring or top-spring nut works across depths. The spring style does not change the nut thread or strength, only how it seats in the channel.

Do these channel nuts fit Unistrut?

Yes. Our channel nuts fit Unistrut and other standard strut channel systems built to the common 1-5/8" profile. Each size cross-references to the Unistrut part number (for example our 1/2-13 regular spring matches Unistrut P1010). See the cross-reference table above or our full strut cross-reference page.

What thread sizes do strut channel nuts come in?

We stock inch threads from #8-32, #10-24, #10-32, 1/4-20, 5/16-18, 3/8-16, 7/16-14, 1/2-13, 5/8-11, 3/4-10 up to 7/8-9, plus metric M6 through M12. Not every spring style is made in every thread; the most complete coverage is in the regular-spring and no-spring lines.

Do you stock stainless steel channel nuts?

Yes, in 316 stainless for wet, coastal, washdown, and chemical environments. Order the stainless variant of any standard size. For general outdoor work where stainless is not required, hot-dip galvanized is also available.

What is an EZ or cone channel nut?

An EZ nut (cone nut) uses a tapered, twist-in design instead of a separate coil spring. You push it into the channel and a quarter-turn locks it in place, giving fast one-hand installation without managing a spring. It is a good choice for high-volume installs and works across channel depths.
